Playroom Decorating Ideas

Out with the old and in with the new! To kick off the new year, we’re changing our guest bedroom into a playroom for baby. The room will do double-duty and act as an office, but mostly just a cute playroom for Evie. We currently are in a three bedroom-2 bath-house, and while some would say the space is plenty big, were starting to feel a bit cramped. So, last month Kevin and I came up with a solution to transform what was a guest room-turned storage into a space Evie could play freely (and we wouldn’t need to clean up all the time. I know I’m not the only mom who struggles with finding a balance between keeping things clean and letting playtime happen.

Before sharing our room transformation, I’d share the inspiration I pulled from Pinterest for playroom decorating ideas. Some of these are inspirational spaces that are designed for older children. But, the overall idea is to get things organized while still being completely baby-friendly. I hate the idea that our current situation doesn’t allow her to pull a bunch of toys out and do her thing. Not to mention the fact that Kevin or I pick them up every evening to get our own living space back. Having a separate playroom for baby outside of our living room will allow us to ease up about feeling the need to regularly clean or put things away.

Our playroom idea

So, the game plan for our space is to create a multipurpose room that I can do work from, and Evie can play in. On top of that, we will also be adding a daybed to the space to accommodate overnight guests. The room isn’t tiny, but it isn’t huge either. At 11x11, we will need to think practically about storage and how to utilize the square footage to accommodate our needs.

For Christmas, Evie was gifted a teepee from my brother, which will be the perfect addition to this space. I’m thinking of having her fur throw (brought back from Ireland!) as the base and adding pillows in the back and opening. For storage, I’ll keep her blankets and smaller toys in woven baskets we already have on hand.

DAYBED & SEATING

As I mentioned above, we’re looking to have this space be somewhat multipurpose. With this in mind, we’ll be adding a daybed to this space. Currently, I have my eye on two different styles but, I hope I can find something similar when we visit the Pottery Barn outlet! If not, I'll go need to figure out one of the online options.

Love the use of wall cubbies for the organization. Most likely, we will utilize the one we currently have in Evie’s room.
