Feminine & Bohemian Nursery Tour

To say this nursery tour has been a long time coming would be an understatement! Seeing as Evie is now 1-years-old, I took my time sharing this. When we first found out, we were having a girl I dreamed of the space that we’d create for her nursery. Our old house had a small front room (my then office) that was the perfect size for a baby nursery. With an awkward sized closet and angled floor plan, we ended up making several changes to make our space work for the furniture and for all the necessities that come with having a baby. Continue reading to see how we transformed this space into a feminine and bohemian nursery!

The color palette of Evie’s room is a mix of pale pinks, greens, and rattan, which sounds odd, but works quite well together! The first design piece that we selected was the wallpaper, which can be seen here. Sadly, the print is sold-out, but you can find similar patterns linked in the shop section below. Initially, I was torn between two designs and so happy we settled on this floral and gold print. We hung an oversized bohemian-inspired mirror just above the changing table. The placement of the mirror reflects the outside light making the closet appear larger and brighter.

The Nursery Closet

If you happen to have stumbled upon this post and want more details on the nursery closet transformation, check out this post. In that blog post, we dive into everything from the Rubbermaid installation to wallpaper choices and furniture! This Nursery Tour will be more about the space as a whole and will include resources and a shop list at the bottom. Being that this space was in a rental, there were limitations on how much we could do. Aside from removing the closest doors and doing a bit of wallpaper, we stuck to the floor plan and made it work by investing in smart storage solutions. File folding proved to be justifiable when pregnant while also is aesthetically pleasing but wasn’t entirely practical with a squirmy baby. After Evie passed her newborn phase, we resorted to merely stacking her separates and pajamas into smaller dividers, like these!

We also ended up making adjustments to the closet system as Evie grew. We adjusted the clothing rod up to accommodate older clothes and to give a bit of space between them and the diaper pail.

Nursery Storage

Any mama will tell you just how vital good storage is, especially in the baby’s room. With so many things needed, having things somewhat organized is super helpful. With limited space, we had to make the most out of what we had, including the closet and high ceilings. We opted to go with a cabinet with a thin width that had been mine since college. In this cabinet, we stored extra diapers, books, toys, and other baby essentials.

I wish I had taken more photos of this area because it was the perfect size for her room. I did hang onto it so you’ll definitely see it again in our new house. Sadly, they no longer make this model, but I will link similar cabinets in the shopping links below.

The light-wood bookshelves are something we get questions about CONSTANTLY! I had wanted wall shelving for a while, but everything I came across online was either too dark, not real wood, or frankly way too pricey. I had my dad build these for me based on the width of the wall. He mentioned that the project is straightforward to recreate and can be done for a fraction of the price of the other styles available online. If you’re interested in having me share the project details I’d be happy to create another post for a how-to.

Along with our larger piece of furniture that helped with storage, we also utilized plenty of woven baskets, bins, and containers. I stored pump-parts under the nightstand for easy access for late-night feedings. Within close reach, I rolled burp cloths and swaddles, which kept things looking neat and tidy. Larger bins (not pictured) are perfect for infant laundry, extra blankets or toys, and conceal overflow of diapers.

I did a whole post (Diaper Cart Hacks) on our diaper cart and really can’t recommend it enough. We kept most (if not all) of our baby toiletries, nighttime diapers, lotions, creams, and wipes. It's convenient for quick changes and can wheel from room to room if needed.

I’m looking forward to creating Evie’s nursery in our new home and can’t wait to share the design we’re thinking of doing. It’s been so incredibly fun to build a space for her to grow in, and I think the final design will be awesome!

xoxo,

Birdie
