Are you headed to Lake Tahoe with your family this winter? The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe cottages are not only family-friendly but are the perfect solution for travelers looking to experience the beauty of Tahoe during the winter season! We had the opportunity to take a trip the Lake Tahoe’s Hyatt Regency to experience a few days of relaxation as a family. This vacation also happened to be Evie (our then 7-month old) daughter's first trip to the mountains. Although both Kevin and I have been to South Lake Tahoe plenty of times, I had yet to stay or explore the north shore or Incline Village. My first reaction, WOW! The North Shore is beautiful, clean, and very upscale. The drive around the lake is truly breathtaking, not to mention the homes (or should I say estates) lining the water's edge are indeed something else.

LAKE TAHOE HYATT REGENCY LAKE FRONT CABIN REVIEW

We arrived at the Hyatt Regency in the late afternoon on a Saturday. We checked into the main lobby, and we immediately impressed with the massive stone fireplace and warm, inviting decor. For a busy Saturday, we were promptly greeted, checked in, and on our way to our on the cottage. While the central hotel does have different room options, including several family-friendly options with bunk-beds, we opted for one of the lake-front cottages. These are detached from the hotel and grouped around the lake. We booked an upper unit, and as we were unloading our belongings were able to experience the start to a Tahoe sunset - something that everyone should experience at least once.

The 1-bedroom cottage was spacious, warm, and plenty big for a family of three. The set-up lends itself perfectly to relaxation, and is arranged around a large stone gas fireplace, oversized sofa, and eating area. Just off the living room is a small wet-bar with everything you need for meals (excluding a stovetop!). The bedroom was also spacious and complete with a walk-in closet area, lounge space, and small round table, and changing nook. Compared to other family hotels we’ve stayed in, the decor and cleanliness were top-notch!

WHERE TO EAT IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE - HYATT REGENCY

Typically, when staying at large hotel chains, the options for food are limited; this wasn’t the case. The Hyatt Regency in Lake Tahoe had seven dining options available on the property. While some are only open seasonally, there are plenty of options for every palette. Ranging from fine dining at the Lone Eagle Grille and Lone Eagle Grille Lounge to more casual fresh meals from to grab-and-go at Tahoe Provisions & Tahoe To Go. On our first night, we were deciding on what to have, Evie was a little fussy from the long car ride, and we needed to figure out a dinner plan that was quick and delicious. We settled on the family-friendly Sierra Café and couldn’t have been more pleased with the service and meals. The great thing about the Sierra Café is that they work with farmers to source locally grown and organic ingredients to utilize on their menu.

During our dinner, we noticed how accommodating they were to guests of all party sizes, from 2-to-10, they seemed to have solutions for everyone. Our waitress was very attentive throughout our dining experience, even asking if our daughter Evie needed anything. I wish we could have come back to try their breakfast menu, which looked delicious! The following morning we ended up have a late start and settled for muffins and coffee in our room. We decided to make our way to Lone Eagle Grille Lounge for an afternoon bite and cocktail. Although beautiful and sunny, it was a very chilly afternoon, so we settled on a few warm appetizers and two different craft cocktails. It was a busy afternoon, and the lounge was pretty crowded, at first it did take a bit to get our drink order in, but shortly after our waiter came by and provided bread and offered his suggestions of what to order on the menu (which was very helpful!)

Our drinks we’re another delicious addition to our stay. I ordered Rendition of Saturn, a mix of gin, falernum, lemon juice, passion fruit puree. Kevin opted for a hot cocktail, The Flapjack made of Bourbon, St. George Spiced Pear, lemon juice, maple, and garnished with a lemon peel. We ordered off the Lounge menu for lunch and found the star of the show to be the Dungeness Crab Fondue, which is a must! We were so full after our early lunch we opted to wait until mid-evening to start thinking about dinner plans. Luckily, the hotel also had a quick bar and grill, which opened later. Cutthroat’s Saloon had a large variety of American food options for very affordable prices. We were pretty drained from a long afternoon of walking the property, so we decided to order out our meals and enjoy dinner in our room. For this reason, choosing to stay in the cottages provided us plenty of space to sit down and enjoy a quiet and relaxing in-room dinner.

Overall, we had an incredible stay! It was family-friendly, the food was great, and the scenery was beautiful! We would love to be able to visit during the summertime when additional lake activities are available! Have you stayed with the Hyatt Regency? What was your experience like?

Happy Travels!

Kelly
