Annual Cooking Baking Day, A Holiday Family Tradition

This post is sponsored by Walmart, All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Every year we have a holiday baking tradition where we spend the entire day baking our favorite treats to share with family, friends, and neighbors. It’s a day I look forward to each year, and one I can’t wait for Evie to enjoy with us. One of the best things about spending this time as a family is sharing the treats we create with the people we love. It’s a tradition that makes the holiday season feel alive, and this season we’ve partnered with Walmart to share how Walmart+ has helped us get everything we need to bake all day without countless trips to the store.

Keep reading to see how you can start this tradition with your family and how Walmart+ benefits can help prepare you for the holiday season!

When should I start baking for the holidays.

There is no right date to kick off your holiday baking. I prefer to dedicate a Sunday afternoon early in December as a way to get into the holiday spirit and share treats with those around us. However, if you’re baking with young children or toddlers who want to “help” with the baking, here are a few tips for helping this go smoothly with little spills and no accidents.

  • Prep all ingredients by “pre-measuring.” Place all ingredients on a cookie sheet for easy organization.

  • You can let your little one pour all items into a bowl and help with manual mixing.

  • Small tools are perfect for little hands. Walmart has many children’s aprons and cooking tools for kids!

  • Gingerbread houses are a great way to entertain your child during baking time. We purchased this Mid-Century sugar cookie house with our Walmart+ order.

How to start a holiday family baking tradition?

You don't need children at home to kick off this holiday tradition! We began years before having our daughter and started this as a holiday bake-off between my husband and me. So many of us grew up loving holiday treats baked by parents or grandparents, and we wanted to share these memories and sweets. This quickly evolved into an annual holiday tradition where we each bake 2-3 different sweets or cookies to then bring to holiday events or give to neighbors.

The important part of this isn't how much you can bake but rather how it makes you feel. I find that turning on holiday music, pulling out old recipes, and baking is the perfect way to get into the spirit of giving. So whether you bake one recipe or ten, it's up to you!
