A Beginner’s Guide to Switching to a All-Natural Personal Care Line

This post was written in Partnership with Native, all opinions expressed hereafter are 100% our own!

All-natural skin and body care are legit, and we, yes we, are all about it! Now, chances are that you’re curious as to the reasons we decided to make the switch to a clean personal care line. We’ll dive deeper into our reasons (or my influence on Kevin) later in this post, but for now, I’ll leave it at this; If you could change a few items in your daily routine that worked just as well, if not better and we’re better for you, would you? What if I also told you that these were free of aluminum, parabens, and sulfates? For most people, including Kevin and I, this seemed like a no-brainer! Especially, if we didn’t have to shell out extra cash to make this change.

How I Made the Switch

Enter my debut with Native, I was first introduced to the line through the recommendations of several readers! I considered trying an all-natural deodorant and wanted to see which brands were at the top of the market. There was obviously a large range of suggestions, but, Native was one brand that emerged time after time. Shortly after, I was introduced to not only Native’s Coconut & Vanilla Deodorant, but also their bar soap and body wash! I actually ended up trying these products in unison and to this day continue to use all three in my routine.

Native isn’t just for Women

I’m lucky enough to have a husband who very relaxed! He doesn’t fuss over products as much I do. But, also, cares enough about his skin to go through the motions. When I first suggested that he also make the switch to try an all-natural personal care line, he was pretty hesitant. His first concern? “Isn’t Native a women’s line?” The answer is, no! The scents themselves are fairly unisex! However, what some of you may not know is that they also offer scents geared towards men. Instead of labeling a generic tag to them like, Sport, Extreme, or Fresh, they share actual scent profiles.

This is very helpful when selecting a scent the Mr. would wear, and I knew he’d love the clean smell of Eucalyptus and Mint as well as Citrus and Herbal Musk. Needless to say, he already was using the body wash daily and didn’t know. he even made mention of how he had been enjoying the “new” soap I added to the shower. Sometimes a little secret switcheroo is all that is needed in order to get someone to try something different. Aside from scent profiles, a second concern Kevin had was if Native deodorant would hold up when working out. I feel like this is a big worry of both men and women who are curious about switching to an all-natural deodorant.

Does it Hold up at the Gym?

Now, I’m going to preface this by saying that we both work out pretty regularly, but, we’re not marathon running or doing vigorous sports training. Each person’s work-up differs so what may be true for us may not be the same for others - it’s all trial and error. The good news is that the deodorant did stand up against the gym, and has time after time. I should note the in my personal experience with trying all-natural deodorants it does take some time for your body to adjust.

Let your body adjust

As with most changes to skincare routines, it takes time for your body to readjust! At first, I noticed that I was actually sweating more frequently. This meant I had to re-apply more frequently in the beginning. After 3-weeks of wear, the constant application was no longer needed and the product provided long-lasting wetness and odor protection.

Don’t let a “Clean” label Trick you!

All too often brands label products with terms like, “clean” or “green,” but in reality still have many of the chemicals that are far from being all-natural. It’s important to do your research! Read the product labels to find out exactly what you're putting on your body. Native is very transparent and uses safe, simple ingredients that are easy to understand. So you won’t need to Google any unknown elements!
