Don't let sugary cocktails weigh down your new years resolution! As someone who enjoys the occasional cocktail, I'm 100% against sugary juices and sodas, to me they just taste fake. This take on the classic bourbon sour uses fresh lemons, and a rosemary simple syrup that couldn't be easier to make! Keep reading for the full recipe
4.5 oz bourbon (Basil Hayden)
2.25 oz. Fresh lemon juice
1/2 C Water
1/2 C Granulated Sugar
3 large sprig of rosemary (plus 1 small sprigs for garnish)
Rosemary Simple Syrup
Mix sugar and water in a small pot over medium-high heat until sugar dissolves. Once sugar is dissolved remove from heat and add the rosemary sprigs. Let steep with rosemary for 5-10 minutes. Transfer mixture to a sealable jar and store in the fridge, mixture should last at least a month.
Crush the large sprig of rosemary in your hand and add it to a cocktail shaker. Add the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and ice to above the level of the liquid and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. Strain the mixture into rocks glasses containing large cubes of ice and garnish with remaining rosemary sprigs. Makes 2 cocktails.
