When to Save & When to Splurge

It's the fashion question that comes across everyone's mind once or twice when is the time to save and when is the time to splurge. With so many new trends popping up every season it can be hard to narrow down which pieces are worth the investment and what may be better to buy through a fast-fashion retailer. Typically, I don't pay much mind to "what to buy" list and follow my personal taste but, when you find yourself with a pair of shoes you paid full price for that go on sale in a month - it makes you think twice.

Over the years I've developed a gauge for color, print, and material, and found that the things I end up loving the most are unique, solid pieces that are made well. Don't get me wrong I do have at least 1 or 2 pieces from Forever21 that have been in my closet for years (as in 6!). Just because you pay $400 for a pair of leather boots doesn't necessarily mean that they're made to last. Brand image and appeal has a LOT to do with price and can often blind us shoppers into thinking it's somehow superior to another brand.

For me color is huge! For years I'd buy things in random colors and skip the basics. This ended up totally backfiring on me when I ended up with a closet full of color with little to no cohesion. As I've developed my style I've found comfort in solids like black, white, tan, and navy. I end up getting much, much, more wear out of them and more often than not they turn into wardrobe staples. On the flip side of this purchasing, more "tame" colors have lead me to be more conscious when I do find a colorful piece I like, like the purple skirt in this post. It's certainly a departure but, at under $50 it was well-priced and actually pretty well made (thanks ASOS!)
