The Best Teething Products for Babies

The teething phase may be one of the hardest hiccups to get through with a newly minted toddler! Between the constant drooling and everything going into the mouth, it’s hard to find products that alleviate the pain of teething. We’re tried more than a few teething products, from topical gels to toys and cooling packs. The common theme across some of the best teething products is that they’re easy to use (for baby) and just as easy to clean for parents. So often teething toys or rings get chewed on and tossed on the floor, so having items that are easy to sanitize is critical!

THE BEST COOLING BABY TEETHERS

teetherpop - I’ve raved about this teething pop on my Instagram Stories constantly because it’s that good! While having a popsicle to aid in teething pain will help, the clean-out after a popsicle can be messy. With the teether pop, you get all the cooling/numbing benefits of a popsicle with little to no mess! We typically freeze naked juice or puree packs in ours, and she’s able to enjoy them over the course of 20-mins or so. Since they are user-friendly, they’re great for traveling or when in the car or on a walk!

Fresh Food Feeder - When Evie was between 8-9 months, we introduced a mesh feeder. She had just started teething and wasn’t eating too many solids beyond purees and soft foods. These were great during this time and helped a lot with her pain, but they were a HUGE pain to clean. We’d typically use slightly thawed fruit in the mesh, and by the time she had finished the fruit was so ingrained in the mesh, it was it impossible to clean - and the dishwasher made them even worse. So, if you don’t mind doing a bit of extra cleaning and have a younger baby, these are a great tool!

Freezable Teethers - These didn’t become practical until Evie was between 9-12 months. Most freezable teethers are significant and are a bit cumbersome for babies to hold in their hands. We found that when we tried to introduce them at 6-months, she would get frustrated and throw them.

THE BEST TEETHING TOYS & CHEWS

Textured Teether: Teethers designed with bristles or textured elements help soothe gums. We love this Teethe-eez teether and find it’s one of the best “soft” teethers that we’ve tried. We also often put this in a bag in the freezer to provide additional comfort.

Baby Banana - This was one teether we had on our registry from the start. This teether has fantastic reviews online, and the overall is perfect for small hands. We reach for this teether chew daily and find that it’s among one of her favorites. As an additional benefit, it also promotes teeth brushing!

Silicone Pacifier Clips - These have been a huge game-changer and something we’ve used from the start. Even before Evie started to teeth, she loved chewing on these silicone balls. They’re gentle on gums and provide plenty of relief on sore gums and emerging teeth. Honestly, we have a mix of different brands from Amazon and more boutique brands like Mushie and LouLou Lollipop - most of them all work just the same, some are just more aesthetically pleasing than others.

Sweetooth - We’ve been huge fans of the Sweet Tooth teether since last year. We found this around Christmas time at a small children’s boutique where we lived and loved the idea. Mostly its a petite ice cream cone (silicone) that’s scented and has a hole down the center. It’s incredibly easy to clean, and our little one can’t get enough of it. It’s 100% silicon and PA-free, phthalate-free, PVC-free, and lead-free! This is an excellent option for small babies and toddlers and would make the cutest shower gift.

Bug-A-Loop Teether - This is another Nuby product that works like a charm! We just found out about this product when Evie was playing with another baby friend. I had seen it online before, but we hadn’t tried it until recently. Now, it’s all she reaches for! The small bugs and textured shapes give her relief while also capturing her interest. You can introduce this product at an earlier age (3+ months) and let your little one get familiar with it.

THE BEST TEETHING GEL

When it comes to teething gels for babies, we’ve only tried three. The one that stood out by far is the non-medicated Baby Orajel. Each package comes with two tunes of Orajel, one for daytime and another designed for nighttime. We’ve exclusively used this for Evie and find it gives her the best form of relief when used with a toy teether. When Evie was younger we used Camilia Teething Drops and found that it worked great for her age. Now, at nearly 1-and-a-half the Orajel seems to be a good replacement.
