Cozy Coupe Car Makeover

This tutorial has been a LONG time coming! I hadn’t realized so many other people were invested in recreating this cozy-coupe car. In this post, we’ll focus on the materials needed for this DIY and how you can create your own! If you’re interested in viewing the condensed video version, you can watch my Instagram Reel on the makeover; click the link below.

This straightforward project doesn’t require too many additional materials aside from the items listed below. There are many other design styles on Pinterest if you’re looking for something in particular. We’ll be emulating the classic woody car for a surf-inspired cozy coupe for this tutorial. As an extra special touch my dad make the surfboard that goes on top of the car!

Cozy Coupe Makeover

*If you’re using a new Little Tikes car, you won’t need to remove any stickers since they come without them. I’d also suggest spraying the pieces before assembling so you won’t need to tape.*

  • Start by giving your car a good clean. I sprayed mine down with the hose, then used a degreaser to ensure the plastic was completely clean.

  • Next, lightly sand any areas receiving a coat of spray paint. This is crucial to ensure that the color has something to adhere to.

  • Using painters tape and paper cover any areas that you won’t be priming. For me, this was the wheels and rims.

  • With a white primer (I recommend Krylon), spray 1-2 coats on your car.

  • Once dry, follow up with your paint colors of choice. Tape any areas intended for colored spray paint. (I used a beige and dark brown.)

  • Let dry completely.

  • Apply graphics, I used this set from Etsy.
