Baby on Board!

Having a blog I find it difficult to keep anything a secret. My first inclination is to publish just about everything that is going on in my life, especially when it’s something as exciting as this…

The secret is now out, a spring baby is on its way! Both the news of finding out and sharing that we’re expecting is an excitement that’s hard to describe. It’s that feeling of knowing your life is changing in an incredible way, but also know it’s a secret to keep quiet about for months to come. I know I speak for both Kevin (who shared his own thought below!) and I when I say that we are over-the-moon ready and excited to bring this baby into our little family. I can finally breathe a sigh of relief as I share this news with you. I’m now in my 2nd trimester and ready to embrace the fun that comes along with a growing bump and nesting!

Finding out…

I should preface this part by sharing that I intend to keep all future maternity and baby related blog posts as real and honest as possible. I appreciate the candor that my other fellow mom-bloggers shared when they were expecting and found their real, no bullshit experiences to be incredibly helpful! I hope to do the same and while most things have been wonderful (like the news of finding out!) I’m sure there’ll be crappy symptoms along the way that I promise not to sugar-coat.

The news of finding out came to us this summer, and in all honesty wasn’t a huge shock. We had already planned (whether it happened quickly or not) to start trying for a baby around this time. Of course, being the crazed WEB-MD reader that I am, I took to researching every symptom or sign of early pregnancy known. I could have sworn that any one-off symptom was a sure-sign of being pregnant and would automatically run to the bathroom to take a test. (This resulted in multiple Amazon orders of different pregnancy tests and a very confused husband).

After several negatives, we finally we were gifted with a positive! Oh, PS this was literally the same week we adopted a 3-month old puppy. I’m telling you, our timing, is impeccable (SMH). I yelled, “KEVIN!” from the bathroom and immediately ran out with a huge smile on my face, the positive test in hand. He immediately asked if I was serious and started tearing up, it was official! A few weeks went by before I could see my Dr. which meant multiple attempts to dodge outings with friends and my mom’s repeated wine offerings.

Once we felt comfortable sharing the news we let family and a handful of close friends know, this was the fun part! Ever since we’ve been keeping the news close and just enjoying the process. I’m not quite showing yet (aside from being bloated, YAY!) and can’t wait to finally see signs of a bump. (For clarity the images shot for this post were a result of a VERY big meal and a bit of pushing out my stomach).

From Kevin…

Wow, I'm going to be a father? What frightening, and incredibly exciting news! I've always wanted to be a dad and when Kelly told me the news I honestly thought it was another failed pee stick. After seeing the look on her face I rejoiced with happiness. This time in our lives just feels right to bring in a little chicken nugget to the house. I'm so lucky to have the ultimate partner and planner when it comes to this huge step in our lives. The only thing that really scares me is the number of baby clothes that will be purchased in the near future (lol). I Look forward to having this space to share this crazy ride we have ahead of us.
